Sickness

It was whilst giving Nora her electrolytes this morning through a medicine pipet (no point trying to pretend it's a nice drink when she takes 1 sip and goes Bleugh) that I realised that had she been puking her guts up every 20 minutes in New Orleans this time last week, it's debatable if she would have actually made it, with no fresh water supply. Looting? You fucking bet I would have been looting for every pack of Dioralyte I could find, never mind as much water as I could carry.

I've just gone in to work to pick up email and try and do priority tasks before getting home and putting her to bed but she was not in a good way this morning. luckily it seemed to go from every 20 minutes to 40, to an hour, then 2 hours. Then she went down for her afternoon nap, and as a wise out of hours emergency home doc said to me once, give a baby 2 hours uninterrupted sleep, you'll be amazed how much better they are.

But Cait, remember your own advice in future. She doesn't like electrolytes, but fuck water, give her them every 5 minutes in a pipet like what NHS Direct told you last year. (I actually forgot this sage advice until nearly mid day today, like a complete moron. Meanwhile she'd been sucking water like a hose, only to have it all sit in her stomach and come up all over the... third pair of trousers she was sick on over the course of the morning).

At least now when she's sick, there's no immediate "Oh my God" moment. There's careful, bloody careful watchfulness and support.

...and lots of lying down on mummy and daddy's (now sick covered - luckily 90% water so not as bad as it could be!) bed being read nice stories too.

I thank my lucky stars there was nothing out of the other end (as yet) when I left.

Update:
came home to find she had had two pieces of toast with a scrape of butter on them, raring to go, hadn't been sick all afternoon and she even had her normal milk. A passing jippy tummy only, then.

Phew.
